Some pictures

Hi all

Here I attach two pictures, of us building our Eco-Column.
This show's how far we have come in the last few days, you could say it's been a journey!

Links

Dear all

Along this 'journey', we have researched lots of information. So, we have decided to post those links right here, incase (in the future) you may want some information on building your own Eco-Column. Or even just to know what abiotic and biotic factors are!

Theres are just four links of millions! Look at these, then go learn your own. The information is absolutely unlimited.

How our Eco-Column will be Self Sustaining:

Hello Everybody

What our basic plan is, other than to create our Eco-Column, is to make it self-sustaining. Which basically means that it (including the inside organisms) can run on it's own, other than us feeding our plant water.

Abiotic factors are the physical resources in our Eco-Column, which includes our pond water, in the Aqua Zone, our soil (in our Terror Zone, and a little in the Decomposition Zone for our Worms to survive) and our 'filter' stones which are placed in the Decomposition Zone.
All of these factors are so important, as organisms are unable to live without it.

Biotic factors are the factors in our Eco-Column, which either used to live, or live. (Their waste is even regarded as Biotic!) This, in our Eco-Column, includes our fish (in our Aqua Zone), our dead leaves and our worms (in our Decomposition Zone) and our actual plant (in, of course, the Terror Zone).
All of these factors are important, because firstly, they clear up the Environment, they keep the food chain going, and they recycle nutrients back into the earth.

To be able to keep our Eco-Column self sustaining, we will have to include lots of abiotic and biotic factors. This we have done, so our Eco-Column, in eight weeks, should be doing brilliantly!

Base Complete!

Hey everyone
Yesterday we completed the base for our Eco-Column. All looking good, as we need it in by Thursday.
Still deciding on what plant. Make a comment on suggestions...
Hope you found the diagram helpful (took us all a long time to make you know).
We'll upload any videos or pictures we took (and will take) tomorrow.

Annotated Diagram

Here, as promised, I have posted what we hope our Eco-Column will turn out like!
We have added some information on what will be put into it, and why this has been done.
Drawing thanks to Daniel and Calven, and the labelling thanks to Redwald.

Weekend Over

Hi all!

This weekend we made some progress.
We sketched our idea of what we want our Eco-Column to look like, and I will scan+ upload it tomorrow!
All is going to plan for our first deadline.

Hey everybody!

Today we begin the construction of our Eco-Columns! What exciting stuff.
I have constructed a rough diagram of our proposed Column, and will be uploading this ASAP.

Welcome to the RDC Ecology

Welcome to the RDC Ecology page! Here Redwald Aspinall, Daniel van der Valk, and Calven Wilson are going to give you weekly updates on our mission to make our own Ecology Column!
We will soon post a labelled picture of what we hope our Eco-Column will look like rather soon. Including our three zones, the Aqua Zone, the Decomposition Zone and the Terror Zone.
